THE STORY
Mr. Braschuk lived with his wife in a small house on Sixth Avenue in Port Alberni, British Columbia. He invented a MARVELLOUS MOTOR that ran perpetually on air. Everyone said it couldn't be done, but there it was, running in his workshop where children from the neighbourhood gathered to watch with interest.

Mr. Braschuk asked the local newspaper if they would write an article. The reporters promised they would at first but then began to doubt the motor's importance and broke their promise. However they were persuaded by the children who told them what a wonderful motor it was and also how important it is to keep a promise. The children always believed in Mr. Braschuk and his motor. Children intuitively realize things of value that excite their curiosity.

Mr. Braschuk was invited to a science symposium in Washington to discuss his motor. He met with other interested people as well. Mrs. Braschuk was always supportive and so they lived a long and happy life.

Mr. Braschuk also talked to the children about his garden which was just as orderly as his workshop. Sometimes Mrs. Braschuk invited the children to the house to taste her rhubarb pie.

After the children were grown and went on to discover interesting ideas of their own, they had a reunion to share what they had been doing. It was there they remembered what Mr. Braschuk had said to them. "If you could make something the world has never heard of, what would it be?"

About Author Leanne Jones and The "Forever Battery" Invention

Author LEANNE JONES is a private investigator living in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. During a recent summer vacation to the beautiful country of Croatia, she was inspired by the many famous inventors who came from that small country. A story idea began to form.

As a schoolteacher prior to being a P.I., Leanne noticed children could be encouraged toward one of the highest forms of intellectual expression which is invention. She also observed that while children find friends through play, playfulness also strengthens creativity.

Europe was on the forefront of the search for clean energy solutions and once back in Canada, Leanne became aware that local innovations were rapidly moving in the same direction. BC-based Harbour Air had just become the first airline in the world to successfully test a commercial all-electric float plane. This contributed to her idea for this story about a battery that could never die. If fantasy could become fact, it would make electric vehicles safer and more efficient. This book aims to inspire young inventors everywhere.

About The Book and iPad App

It's Cool To Be Clever: The story of Edson C. Hendricks, the genius who invented the design for the Internet

IT'S COOL TO BE CLEVER tells the true story of an inquisitive boy in the 1950s who doesn't fit in at school. Edson Hendricks is bullied because he is so smart (people accuse him of getting answers from his father who is the principal) and has red hair. He finds comfort in an imaginary world where he has machine parts, and no internal organs or emotions.

Years later, Edson's strange capacity to think like a machine helps him create a new way for computers to communicate. His "connectionless" network design paves the way for today's Internet.
