About the Author

W. THOMSON MARTIN
W. Thomson Martin, known to his friends as Tom, was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1935. He has lived in five countries and worked in four of these. He is a retired microbiologist. Since retiring, he has written two previous books: The Bluff Detector (2010) and From Democracy to Biocracy (2016). He lives with his wife in Victoria, Lekwungen Territory, BC, Canada.

CULTURAL TRANSFORMATIONS
This book contains both a warning and an appeal. The warning is that the climate crisis we humans face is of a magnitude that has never before been experienced in the history of the human species. Thomson Martin's appeal is simple. The appeal is to STOP! To stop and think more deeply than ever before about what Homo sapiens is capable of helping to create when we collaborate with other members of our species and with Nature.
To survive as a species we must first choose to survive. That choice has not yet been made by Homo sapiens. Cultural transformations will be required to make the necessary changes to ensure our species' survival. These changes will include our stories, our beliefs, our economics, our politics, our behaviours, and our relationships with Nature and each other.
Our politics must change from human-only-focused democracy to biocracy, encompassing the rights of all of Nature. A new economic system is critical to the survival of humanity. The new economic system will reject greed-based capitalism and instead focus on the authentic needs of people and show respect for nature and the Earth.
